Society History
The society started in the mid 1960's as
a "medal only" group but by the end of the 60's it had expanded to a cover medals and militaria. From the start it was very
a well-supported society that, not only held well-attended local meetings, but also carried out regular visits to
other societies and exhibitions. By recruiting it's membership from amongst the various units based in the "Home
of the British Army" it was able to supplement the many "civvies" already committed to the society. The society met
at several different venues around Aldershot prior to it's current home at The Galpin Hall.
The meeting normally commences on a formal note dealing with society matters and very
swiftly moves on to a guest speaker or society member providing a presentation on a topic of special interest. These
presentations form the main part of the evening and are followed by individual members showing items from their own collections,
very often relevant to the main presentation.
